The problem
Better Auth handles sign-in, but every backend still has to check the session on each request. Each framework does that a little differently, and each copy is a new place for a mistake.

The design
better-middleware adds Better Auth login checks to any backend: Hono, Fastify, Express, or Next.js. It validates the session, caches it safely, and returns clear typed errors.
The rule I hold it to: it never leaks tokens.

The build
I am its author. It is written in TypeScript, the repository is public on GitHub, and it is still in active development.
